Program Assistant

Under the sponsorship of Hamilton Madison House, the City Hall Older Adult Center ("CHOAC") is one of the largest older adult centers in New York City, providing nutritious meals and vital services and activities to older adults who come from many different areas of NYC. CHOAC is a model for providing high quality, high volume, culturally and linguistically appropriate services and programs and has a high public profile and visibility. The Program Assistant plays an integral role in assuring the center programming operates as efficiently and effectively as possible to meet the members’ needs and contract goals, including but not limited to membership registration sign-up, office support, monthly report preparation and assistance during meal program. This position reports to the Director of CHOAC and Office Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ensuring the safety and well-being of participants including maintaining order at all times especially during all emergency situations, all meal service, activities and special events
  • Assist with meal tickets distribution at greeting counter.
  • Work with office manager to maintain meal program attendance and any other group activity records.
  • Daily data entry, collect, maintain and organize all participant records/ sign-in sheets and scanning to STARTS client tracking system and other formats as required.
  • Assists in office administration work.
  • Conducting NSI and update members’ profile on STARS client tracking system.
  • Work with CHOAC Director and team to support group activities, workshops, special events such as holiday meals, birthday parties, special holiday celebrations, etc.
  • Assists with educational, and recreational activities, health promotional activities and nutrition workshops as needed.
  • Attend team meetings and trainings

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in the human service area or high school diploma with extensive social service related experience.
  • Possess a warm, empathetic and enthusiastic personality and energetic; sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of the elderly. Prior experience working with older adults desirable.
  • Bilingual/Bi-literate in English/Asian Language required. Ability to speak two or more Asian Language dialects a plus.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; able to complete multiple concurrent projects, frequently with short deadlines.
  • Experience in handling health and safety situations related to senior citizens.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity as it relates to serving clients and their families.
  • Ability to work with diverse population of older adults, volunteers and staff.


Hours:
Tuesday, to Friday, 8:30AM to 2:00PM, 20 hours per week
