POSITION OBJECTIVE
Working under moderate supervision, the Research Assistant 1 will perform research into glycogen storage disorders with the objectives to create and characterize cultured cell models of the disorders, and then test various strategies to correct the genes causing them. The responsibilities of the position are to 1) develop and characterize the cell models, 2) collect and analyze samples generated from the project, and 3) assist in the overall operations of the lab, including monitoring supplies and general lab duties. This position will function under the umbrella of the Research Institute for Children’s Health, the goal of which is to explore therapeutic approaches for rare, genetic diseases. This position is a part-time 20 hours per week.

CONTACTS
Department: Daily contact with the supervisor and a research associate who will serve as the project director to discuss research and obstacles encountered. The project will also utilize the Small Molecule and Drug Screening Core and thus interact with Core personnel.
University: Little to no contact anticipated, but there may be occasions where materials or information could be exchanged between labs.
External: Occasional contact with collaborators to exchange research material or data.
Students: Regular contact with 1 to 2 students for training and oversight responsibilities during undergraduate summer internship program in the principal investigator’s laboratory.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position has no direct supervision of staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in science and 0 to 1 year of experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 0 to 2 years of laboratory experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General molecular biology laboratory environment. May have exposure to chemical hazards, such as acids, bases. Personal protective equipment, including lab coat, gloves and goggles, will be provided to limit exposure to hazards. No physical exertion required. No travel required, but attendance at scientific meetings will be offered for presenting research results.

The pay range for this position is $90,000.00-$100,000.00 annually. As the General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall success of the hotel.
