Job Description


AECOM has a position available for a Civil Engineer to join our Transportation Group in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. In this role you will be working with clients at the state level and in the cities and counties in Alabama, as well as private clients. This role requires office presence, but has the potential to be a hybrid role later (some office/some remote)

The responsibilities of this role include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Prepare detailed engineering plans, construction documents, maps, reports, construction cost estimates and other project related items
  • Design projects that include public and private road systems, grading, drainage, erosion and sediment control, and traffic control plans
  • Read, analyze, and interpret engineering and construction documents, soil and material reports, and government regulations
  • Perform drainage and hydraulics calculations
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and clearly communicates - both written and verbally to various audiences
  • Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
  • Identifies discrepancies in results.
  • Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
  • May help guide entry level engineers by sharing knowledge of general civil engineering principles

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree and 2+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Experience must include DOT project work
  • Due to the nature of this work, US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering desired
  • Previous experience with Alabama DOT projects is helpful
  • EI or PE from the State of Alabama is helpful
  • 4+ years transportation design experience preferred
  • Experience with MicroStation and Inroads, experience in Open roads is favorable
