Early Learning Project Coordinator (Full-Time)

Role & Level/Grade: P2/ 4
Department: Education
Reports To: Asst. Director of Education

SUMMARY:

The Early Learning Project Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Asst. Director of Education and will coordinate programs related to early learners including ages 0-7 (Pre-school and Grades K-2). They will take a leadership role in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of early childhood/early elementary programs including new offerings, while also establishing and growing relationships in our community with key partners in early childhood education, including schools and organizations. The Early Learning Project Coordinator will take a leadership role in the planning and facilitation of Mini-Me Science and Little Atoms: Pre-K Learning, which are Frost Science programs geared toward early learning. They will also assist with the development and delivery of grant funded initiatives, including those with the museum’s Early Childhood Hands-On Science (ECHOS®) curriculum.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the museum.
  • Lead the implementation and delivery of early childhood/early elementary programs, including camps, outreach and field trip learning labs.
  • Work with the Education team to develop new programmatic offerings for early childhood/early elementary learners.
  • Assists with the development of and leads the delivery of grant funded initiatives related to early childhood education, including the museum’s ECHOS® curriculum.
  • Serves as a conduit between the museum and early childhood/early elementary service providers, including schools and organizations and establishes and grows relationships in the community in this area.
  • Works to increase participation within the museum’s early childhood/early elementary programs and offerings.
  • Ensures that program content meets and/or surpasses appropriate state and national education standards.
  • Works cooperatively with others and integrates early activities within the Museum.
  • Maintains excellent customer service by maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and through guest interactions by answering questions related to educational programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Education or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years teaching Pre-K - K in a formal or informal setting.
  • Experience with grant writing and/or management.
  • Experience working with teachers/community organizations a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Experience working with families, children and youth in diverse communities.
  • Experience with program and lesson development.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Knowledge of science concept development in early learners.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to present oneself as an ambassador for Frost Science.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through with assignments.
  • Bilingual is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those as employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work time will primarily be in an open office setting. Occasional exposure to outdoor activities may be requested. Weekend and evening work in alignment with programs is sometimes required. This position may also require local travel.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Level 2 background clearance as defined by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
  • Drug screening as part of the Drug Free Workplace Program.
